Navigators Are Go!

Recruitment for 12 service navigators to be hosted with 6 different agencies is a complex business, but the Fulfilling Lives team like a challenge.

We were excited to receive such interest in the service navigator level 1 and level 2 posts and the standard was exceptionally high so it was a very difficult decision to whittle over 200 down to our final 12, but after days of hard work, we selected our team. Our 12 navigators will be based with one of our host agencies:

Age UK Newcastle
Advocacy Centre
North Tyneside MIND
Tyneside Women’s Health
Oasis Aquila
Mental Health Concern

We are now completing all the paperwork and are planning to start 4th August on with a very comprehensive Fulfilling Lives induction, set to be filled with information about the Fulfilling Lives Newcastle Gateshead project, how it’s all going to work, along with training and some fun stuff. We’ve got a great bunch of people joining the team and we will look forward to introducing the navigators in the next blog.

We are very excited to be holding our first Community Lunch on 15th August as this will give us a chance not only to bring all of our colleagues together, but also the wider community, including our Operational, Strategic and Experts by Experience groups. Now, the idea of a Community Lunch is that everyone is involved in the preparation and making of food, so roll your sleeves up and be prepared to get stuck in! In addition to our roles as System Brokers, we have also been taking on the role of service navigator and each have one client with whom we are working. This process has been an excellent learning opportunity, not only to test out our referral system, but to also experience first-hand the work our navigators will be doing in their role. Our clients are all very different and have posed diverse challenges, which have allowed us to not only see the need and benefit of working responsively and with flexibility, but also with patience: we must remember that our clients do not spiral into chaos within a matter of a few weeks and time is needed to realise a life of stability and fulfilment. We, alongside Basis@336 (Oasis Aquila) have been working with one client for around two months now and despite many difficulties, the client has completed a detox programme and has just moved into his flat, after 17 years of homelessness.

We know there is still work to be done to support our client to continue to move forward, but the Fulfilling Lives programme is about the stickability factor and we plan to be there every step of the way.
